About Us

The African dug out canoe can be traced back 8 000 years, evolving from the most basic hollowed out log to the more modern carefully crafted and decorated wooden pirogues. These vessels of all shapes and sizes allowed for greater distances to be covered when exploring to find new untapped resources as well as providing a way to go after bigger catches of fish to sustain their people. On lakes, rivers and in the sea, the lowly canoe has been one of the key backbones to the economic development of the continent.

With the rapid expansion seen through-out Africa, the once abundant trees that allowed for easy access to dug-outs is disappearing fast. A more modern, efficient and safer boat for the everyday people living on the waterways of Africa was required. Out of this need, the Espada was born.
